What Makes Us Us?

By Byron

January 3, 2019

I spend most of my time speaking to groups of students about culture and cultural differences.  Culture is very interesting to me.  So much of who we are and how we do the things we do is directly shaped by cultural influences.  Culture is a very big part of who we are.

However, as important as the influence of culture is in shaping who we are, we are so much more than “just” our culture.  There are many characteristics that put together make us who we are.  These characteristics influence who we are as individuals.  They influence who we have as friends and our relationships. They influence our likes and dislikes. They influence our aptitudes and interests. They influence how we view the world and how the world views us.

These characteristics come together to make us who we are.  These characteristics are all pieces of the puzzle that is us.

Trying to understand people fascinates me.  Here is a short video of a few of the ‘other’ characteristics that shape who we are.
