The past few years have posed significant challenges for students, teachers, schools, and communities. While our students are not the first generation to encounter social unrest, change, bullying, school violence, and political polarization, the constant barrage of social media can be overwhelming.
Despite the perception that we are more divided than ever, we are also more interconnected. Our students represent a diverse group, yet they share many commonalities.
In these tumultuous times, we often emphasize differences when we should be focusing on similarities. Through conversation, we discover our shared experiences.
As an external voice, I hold a unique position to assist schools in engaging their students in discussions about diversity, inclusion, tolerance, and respect, all in pursuit of promoting peace. My role is not to dictate what students should think, but rather to encourage critical thinking and action in response to the challenges they encounter.
Just as my live in-school presentations leave a lasting impact, my online platform, Speak to Students, continues to resonate beyond the initial interaction. I’m Byron, and I’m passionate about speaking to students. I’d be thrilled to engage with your students as well.
