My Purpose and Plan

By Byron

January 1, 2019

My name is Byron and I Speak to Students.

There are a few questions I get asked all the time. What are the goals of Speak to Students presentations? What will Speak to Students accomplish when speaking to my students? Of all the speakers I can have speak to my students, what makes Speak to Students different?

Here is my (not-so-brief) brief answer.

  • I want to get students involved. Speak to Students presentations are interactive. Students thoughts and opinions are part of each presentation and discussion
  • I want students to be informed. Speak to Students presentations are informative. Students learn practical information that will help them as they go through school and beyond.
  • I want to challenge students to think – NOT tell them what to think. Speak to Students presentations help students think about familiar topics in new ways. Speak to Students presentations inspires students to seek out different viewpoints and issues.
  • I want to connect the classroom to the world outside of school. Speak to Students presentations brings the community and the world into the classroom. Students learn more about why they need to learn what they are learning.
  • I want students to realize they are not that different from others. Speak to Students presentations help students to understand that people from all walks of life are more alike than they are different
  • I want to motivate and inspire students. Speak to Students presentations spark new thoughts and ideas and can spur them into action.
  • I want to model respect. Speak to Students presentations show respect for the present by discussing opposing viewpoints in a neutral way.
  • I want students to know already know a lot more but that there is more they can learn. Speak to Students speak to where students are at. Acknowledging where students are helps students see a vision for the future, for themselves and for their lives, their communities and their world.
  • I want to empower students to think for themselves. Speak to Students presentations will help students formulate their ideas into statements and facilitate student conversations.

Positively impact your students by inviting Speak to Students to speak to your students in your school. I LOVE speaking to students and I’d love to speak to your students too.
